2019 Team Camp

Ushering In The New Year

This week the young men and women of the LUX / Sideshow p/b Specialized cycling team made the journey to Southern California to train, reconnect, and for the newcomers, become acquainted with one another.

While many rang in the new year with a late night, Ryan Kelly (National Team Cyclist), with the help from Elizabeth & Pete Schmidtmann, led the Women’s Team to an early morning bike ride along the famed Pacific Coast Highway. Just when we thought our Women’s team couldn’t get any more amazing, we’re joined by Zoe Ta-Perez (2018 National Time Trial Champion).

Roy Knickman (Olympic and Hall of Fame cyclist), with the assistance from George Chester and Dean McCall, kicked off the year by leading the Men’s team to a worthy amount of miles in and around the Santa Monica Mountains. With a talented group of returning and new talent, including Quinn Simmons (2018 National Road Race Champion), we’re sure to see some great things from both the Women’s and Men’s teams in the 2019 season.

The LUX squad had an opportunity to fine-tune their equipment, build their base, receive physical treatment, and set their seasons goals. They also received advanced performance education from world-renowned Hall of Fame cyclist and nutritionist, Jane Becker. While this camp has been all about building for the season there was still ample time to relax and have some fun. If morale is any indication of how successful the season will be, then we believe that 2019 will be another great year for the riders of LUX.

More than a dozen companies, and generous individual donors, contribute to LUX to make these training events, and season long endeavors possible. In the pursuit of maximum performance, we are grateful for the continued collaboration between LUX and its partner Specialized. This year, Specialized is expanding their partnership by graciously inviting the team to the wind tunnel at Specialized’s headquarters in Morgan Hill, as well as the Retul Innovation center in Boulder.

We are excited for the coming year and are working hard to continue to make LUX / Sideshow p/b Specialized cycling team the most advanced, competitive, and complete Junior Development program in the United States.

Thanks goes out to all of our partners/donors in the effort.

Thank You

A special thanks to our volunteers, mechanics, mentors, and coaches who make it possible for the young people we serve to personally experience the challenges and rewards of bike racing. On behalf of the staff and riders, we would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to our sponsors, without whom our season would not be possible. We are continually inspired by the dedication to the sport of cycling and the generosity extended toward the LUX Team by our amazing sponsors.
